Education and Nonprofit Industry Veteran Will Oversee Operational Scale for Pioneer in Skills-Based Volunteering
Brooklyn, NY – Nov. 9, 2021 – Today, Common Impact, the nonprofit pioneer in skills-based volunteerism announced the appointment of Ola Duru as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Duru has a passion for creating equitable spaces and opportunities for marginalized people and has a proven history of operational excellence in support of these communities. In her new role, Duru will be working closely with Common Impact CEO Danielle Holly to lead and scale the organization’s internal operations and talent functions.

Before joining Common Impact, Duru was the Senior Director of Operations and Finance with Black Girls CODE (BGC), leading the organization’s operations, finance, and development functions. There, she helped raise over $20 million dollars and developed pivotal systems and processes to support the BGC’s goal of increasing equity for Black girls in STEM spaces. Prior to BGC, Duru spent over a decade creating and implementing operational excellence systems in charter schools across New York City including Explore Schools and Manhattan Charter Schools.

Duru will be based at Common Impact’s headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. Duru graduated from American University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and International Marketing and from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business with a master’s degree in Business Administration. She is a proud Nigerian immigrant with roots in many communities across the United States. She resides in Brooklyn and loves to explore NYC parks with her family on the weekends.
