Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Common Impact Present the Third Annual Making Good Happen at Work Conference

(Wellesley, MA) — Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Common Impact today announced the third annual Making Good Happen At Work conference, a free virtual event that will help business leaders and corporate social responsibility managers build employee engagement and corporate philanthropy programs in response to changing community needs. This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, October 27, 1-3:30 p.m. EDT.

Making Good Happen at Work will feature a keynote from Bea Boccolandro, author of Do Good at Work and a consultant on corporate social responsibility and workplace purpose, who will lead an interactive conversation on “Creating a Purpose-Driven Culture in Times of Uncertainty.”

“From the global pandemic to racial injustices, there has never been a more urgent time and need to bring leaders together to affect real change in our communities,” said Karen Voci, President of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation. “It’s no longer enough for businesses to simply succeed financially — corporate service and giving will continue to be pivotal in making the world a better and more equal place for all. We look forward to leading this conversation with our partners at Common Impact and learning creative ways philanthropic leaders are pivoting in this new era.”

Additional sessions and speakers include:

Building an Anti-Racist Culture through Service and Giving

In a year when many companies have voiced support of the Black Lives Matter movement, there is a lot of effort being placed into making those commitments real through service and giving. How are businesses aligning their practices, internal culture and philanthropic efforts to build an anti-racist movement?

Small & Medium Businesses: Continuing engagement programs in the context of economic uncertainty

COVID-19 has thrown the business community into economic uncertainty, and that means that already small budgets for service and giving are shrinking even further. How are small enterprises continuing to invest in their communities through grants and volunteerism? What are the creative ways they are doing more in the face of uncertainty?

Storytelling and Measurement

How do you tell your social impact story? Learn how to tangibly measure the impact of your work with Common Impact and True Impact’s new measurement approach and leverage it to get to the heart of your story in a way that resonates with your audience.

Conference attendees will receive a copy of Making Good Happen 2, the second edition of a toolkit designed to help businesses build successful employee service and giving programs. The toolkit will offer basic starting points and principles from Harvard Pilgrim’s programs. In addition, Making Good Happen 2 takes a deeper look at skilled volunteerism based on Common Impact’s approach to breaking down barriers to create meaningful partnerships between companies, social sector organizations and the people that drive them. Making Good Happen 2 will be released publicly immediately following the event.

“The overlapping crises of 2020 have underscored both the opportunity and responsibility that business and social sector leaders have to accelerate equity and community change through employee engagement and giving,” said Danielle Holly, CEO of Common Impact. “Making Good Happen at Work is a chance for the sector to dig in to how we do that in a way that’s measurable and meaningful.”
