If you are interested in establishing a volunteer program for employees at your company as a way to help the community, where do you start?

First, find out if any formal volunteer programs already exist at your company. "The community affairs or human resources department usually oversees them," says Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch, a firm in San Francisco that helps businesses manage volunteer programs. If there is no program like the one you’re proposing, find out if management would back such an effort.
