James M. MacDonald, Fidelity Investments
Jim MacDonald is President of Workplace Investing at Fidelity Investments. where he is responsible for managing all aspects of Fidelity’s Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, Health & Welfare and Stock Plan Services businesses.
Mr. MacDonald joined the company in 2000 as executive vice president of Fidelity Investments Systems Company, then being named chief information officer in 2001 for Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo.).
Mr. MacDonald was named executive vice president and chief information officer for Fidelity Employer Services Company (FESCO) in 2005 and then president of Fidelity HR Services before he left Fidelity to serve as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Athenahealth, a high-growth healthcare service provider in 2006. He re-joined Fidelity in January 2009 and subsequently ran WI’s Plan Services group.
Prior to joining Fidelity in 2000, Mr. MacDonald was employed at Computer Science Corporation, where he was a partner in the Financial Services practice, providing consulting services to Fortune 100 Company chief executive officers and chief financial officers in support of their global business strategies. Mr. MacDonald also spent nearly 12 years at State Street Corporation in roles of increasing responsibility, including chief information officer, and was a member of The Executive Operating group, chairperson of the Information Technology Steering group and a member of Board of Directors, Princeton Financial Systems.
Over the course of Mr. MacDonald’s career, he has worked closely with the executives of large corporations on their strategic areas of focus as well as on the execution of critical business solutions. Mr. MacDonald received a bachelor of science degree in business management and computer science from the University of Massachusetts. He also is a graduate of the Wharton Executive Development Program.
